press brake dies

Post by 2strokeforever »

I found this super handy site with more press brake dxfs than you could imagine. Super handy for making laminated dies.
I just looked thru their catalog until I found what I wanted and downloaded it.

021.207M is the 4 sided die I think most people would want
018.141 is the punch I think I want, they also have gooseneck pumches

Heres a dxf of them together

Thank you for those, i am in the middle of building my own press brake with two 60 ton rams. The top dies i have sorted but the lower is a struggle, that one ideally adjustable in opening for different radius is what i want
The adjustable part is easy, its keeping the die always central thats hard

I think you are way overthinking with the adjustable radius idea, 2x 4 sided dies gives you tons of options and works reliably.

Not too bad to make, just a stack of shims.
You remove them to make it wider, and simply put them on the outside to allow the same length bolt.

Thats a much simpler way than what i was trying. My thoughts were similar to this picture, set widths with threaded rods you move from hole to hole and possibly in the gaps a spacer with square to align with the press

This is my setup with the 4 way die. Its quick and easy to rotate the lower die using the machine to lift it and rotate it to what v opening i need at the time. Was lucky to come across the 12ft lower die on a auction, paid good money for it but it works for 90 percent of the bending i do

cutnweld,

The tooling came from Riteway Brake Dies (the cheapest I found at that time)

I built the The Odd Ball Bender (outer bays 30T / center section 100T):

Stroke Control:

12V Solenoid Valves:

I still need to add DRO and backgauges, If the right job shows up I could automate it as well.

I like the setup, nice looking DIY, I thought long and hard about building my own too, back in the day, the fact is a person can automate a machine, however with the new control software out there on new brakes, with the ability to import and export DXF files, the ability to draw a 3d part on machine touchscreen and have it tell you what size to cut your piece to etc etc, I figured that was worth something to me

Yeah depending on where you are in the fab chain, it's not a question of if you can afford that new equipment, it's you can't afford to work without it.

I enjoyed the build and a lot of up-cycled parts & metal went into it. The only process I'm lacking is the powder coat process as the nearest shop is a 100 miles away. Building a couple of ovens is on the winter hit list..

With the simple U shaped one with shims, you can shim it just right/tight to make channel.
