Geodesic Star Candle Holder
Attached is a Geodesic Star Candle Holder .dxf. Just fold the multiple stars with the center star to create a basket. Then take the rainbow of stars and wrap them around until they touch at each point and tack them all together. If you use a flame candle the hole goes up and for a flameless, the hole can go down. In any case you are rewarded with star shadows dancing about the walls in a room.

This looks cool! Do you have a picture of this all done? So I can see how this looks finished?

Re: Geodesic Star Candle Holder
Unfortunately, I don't have a photo. Just take the base unit (6 Stars) and fold the outer stars up until the tips touch all the way around. Then fold the curved section, it will match up to the points on the base and then tack it together.

Thanks that looks cool!!
I don't understand someone not willing to pay $20 for membership, that seem extremely cheap considering all the very talented people on this site willing to share some of their work......go figure.

Not gonna pay $20 bucks for thousands of dollars worth of free drawings? All the free advise and help that is offered on this forum is well worth a measly $20 bucks, even if you get nothing else in return. Whatever..... some people are just born to leech I guess.

Re: Geodesic Star Candle Holder
Very cool file! It might be fun to import the dxf to Fusion 360 and try to bend the stars around to create a solid model of the candle holder. Then perhaps it could be 3D printed.

I tried to bend it up in Fusion and couldn't figure out how to do it.

Re: Geodesic Star Candle Holder
I was able to bend up the base fine, but the other part is wanting to bend the tips of the adjacent stars as well.AREA wrote: Sat Nov 16, 2024 12:11 pm I tried to bend it up in Fusion and couldn't figure out how to do it.
I will have to try to figure this one out.

Re: Geodesic Star Candle Holder
Here is a version that I made. The bottom is round not a star.
My version is blown out to 6" at its widest point. It holds a 3" candle
I fabricated it from 7 gauge (had it laying around)
It will be a challenge to not blow out the star tip when putting togetherif fabricated with too light of material
Here is how I put mine together, since a question was asked about it earlier in this thread:
There are 2 pieces in this file.
The base is a no brainer. I bent the base stars up about 1/2 way to start. Then i worked the
base stars up until the star tips touched.
The top star ring stars bent at about 72 degrees each (360 degrees/5= 72 deg).
The ring section (5 stars) may not come out bent perfectly at 72 degrees. (not for me
anyways). I got it close then tac welded the stars where they touched eachother, then took it
to the anvil and measured across each star and tapped it around until all dimensions directly
across were the same in all 5 star locations.
Went together nicely

Doug - that one came out great! You pictures will certainly show others how it goes together. I did model it up using Fusion 360 - not perfect - but close enough to see how it goes fits together.

Re: Geodesic Star Candle Holder
I also took off about half of the millscale before bending, and shot it with some of Bill Warden's Copper FX spray after welding. Which is how it got that copperish splotchy color. I like messing around with that spray stuff. Two identical pieces never come out the same, which is cool imo..

Re: Geodesic Star Candle Holder
tinspark your turned out awesome! Very nicely done, thanks for the pics.
adbuch I am impressed with your bending in Fusion, I could not figure it out for the life of me.
Going to go with tinsparks design, looks like a winner. Thanks guys.
