Quick change torch holder

Post by kn612 »

Quick and easy torch holder. Still need to make a bracket that holds the unused torch on the x axis. 1 3/8 split lock collar. The magnets are 3/4" diameter. #8 socket head machine screws help line the torch in the mount. Undersized all bolt holes so they could be cleaned up with a drill, any holes under 1/4" diameter my machine doesn't do so well. I got the idea from Maverickcnc plasma tables

Brilliant! Haven't seen anything like that before. I only have one torch but if I had to change it out often I would use your design, it's awesome. Thanks for sharing.

If I had a 3d printer I would rather make one like this, viewtopic.php?f=3&t=30742&p=186559#p186559

Might re design mine for a few switches to stop torch motion in a breakaway. Right now the z floating switch acts as an estop so motion atleast stops if the torch dives.

I don't like the breakaway mounts that allow the torch to fall all the way off and the capture ones don't allow you to switch torches.

Really nice! I am interested in retrofitting to be able to run a gas torch. I may be using the wrong words because I'm not finding alot of documentation for DIY'ers. If I can figure it our I am definently going to cut this out.

That is a pretty slick setup for quickly changing from gas to electric torch. Thanks for sharing your design with us.

I had been pondering the maveric design when I recently came across your post. Now more motivated to proceed.
Question - did you need to shim the magnets to get your torch alignment correct? I see McMaster-Carr has ring
shims available from .001" on up.
Thanks.

No, shims aren't necessary. Depends how square you assemble it.
