I need some help please with a fish.

Post by larrycameron44 »

Its for a mates Fishing Club prize, and for some reason after I cut out his Bar Sign he thought he would enlist my inexperienced terrified help to do this. Suprise!
Ok so the idea is to have this in a layered effect like maybe 3 layers and cut out of stainless milk separator plates from the seperators at the large dairy farms. The panels are approx 9" x 29" that I can use. I am not even sure the plasma will cut it, as the corrugations are very close together.... its fun already  Picture of snapper attached as well as a picture of my Torchmade Cad file,(It wouldn't upload the file) remember I am a newbie so be gentle.

I have no idea how to keep them all separate so looking for all your worldly experience and advice please.
Thanks

Don't know if this is what you want, but all of those connected pieces inside the fish will cut seperately and fall out. You can then put them together in whatever fashion you wish. To get the whole thing to stay one piece, just node edit the connected inner pieces so there is a small gap in them.

Oh yeah Mike I know that, thanks. The pieces actually represent individual pieces that I will cut separately and then layer on top some how. I just placed the different pieces where they should go.
Ah maybe its nightshift getting to me. I will sort it no doubt.
Thanks Mike for your help

I hope this makes sense and hope I am interpreting correctly what you want to achieve, if so maybe give this a try.

You say you want three layers so I assume you have three pieces from which to cut.

Take piece 1 and cut the red layer with all pierce points on the internal drop outs internal so as to leave a clean edge and cut the outside perimeter with external pierce to achieve a silhouette with holes and set aside.

Take piece 2 and cut the blue layer with an external pierce and set aside, (keep the large offcut to later become the background Piece)

Take piece 3 and scale drawing 110 - 125 % and cut green and black with normal pierces and all the red parts which were drop outs in piece 1 cut with external pierce.

Gather all the pieces and weld from behind to assemble in layers so externally pierced small red bits are welded to fish silhouette from piece 1, green and black pieces are welded to the blue piece of piece 2 and then the whole lot is welded to the previously set aside offcut from piece 2 which is now the background effectively creating a layered abstract.

Extra effect could be achieved by only welding some of the small red bit in leaving some open.

Further effect could also be achieved by offsetting or rotating the material between cut layers so the deformation in layers runs in different directions.

I hope this all makes sense. I'd love to go out the shed and give it a go but unfortunately at this stage I don't have my own setup and only get the chance to play once or twice a year on a mates Plasmacam on the other side of Oz.
