Re: Old Sawblade
That looks awesome, great work!! How did you go about locating the piece on your table so that it was square and cut where you wanted?

Re: Old Sawblade
Thanks for posting. I'm looking for ideas myself. I have a friend that has a pallet full of dull cement cutting blades, some up to 52" that he is going to drop off in a few weeks. I'm planning on cutting wood cutting teeth into them along with some designs.
I think I'm the oldest 10 year old boy on the forum...

Re: Old Sawblade
Thank you for your comments. For squaring it up, we had fun! The blade had the holes and slots in the middle. I had to measure and make sure it was a part of the waste or it would have taken the faces off. As for squaring it up on the table, I left a centre hole in the art that would cut out in the waste, and we used this to reference material zero on our table. After that, we just held our breath until it was done cutting. LOL

Re: Old Sawblade
Ive done 3 sawblades this year, the long misery whip hand types, working on the 4th now. On one of them the guy wanted a couple hanging holes. Ok no problem. I had the art cut in it so I tried punching the holes in the ironworker and it shattered the sawblade into 3 pieces! Better that than my 3/8 die. I wont do that again. I welded it all back together and ground smooth and rusted it. The rust of course is a different color that the old looking rust but he seemed ok with it. Those blades must be super hard. Alternatively my punch must be super hard also but I already knew that. next I tried drilling the holes with a sharp bit. Nope! Wouldn't touch it. WTH. So I threw it on the plaz table and easily cut a couple holes with the plasma cutter.

Re: Old Sawblade
May I suggest attaching a sharpie to your torch and setting up the G-code to do a marking operation for you design.
Cleaning ink off is cheaper than replacing the saw blade because you messed up.

Re: Old Sawblade
The old saw blades will have a much different look (metal wise) than one cut from new steel. Plus the older blades will have the actual kerf bevel on the teeth so we know it is a real blade. This could be mimicked using the appropriate materials and finishes. Also - the original blade may have some sentimental value to the customer.

I dunno, I think 90% can be done with new steel.adbuch wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 10:13 pm The old saw blades will have a much different look (metal wise) than one cut from new steel. The 10% ? yes as above.
Maybe someone more artistic than me could make some blank .dxf files ?
Both small and large round blades, as well as 1 man and 2 man straight blades.

Re: Old Sawblade
I think if you use the search function here for saw blades, you should find both types. (round and 1 man/2 man blades)
