Help making my girlfriends face portrait cutable $150 prize
I have a picture of my girlfiend that I want to cut out for part of her Christmas gift..I have Corel Draw X5 but don't have the slightest idea how to use it yet.
Any help will be greatly appriciated!! I want a lot of detail but not too much as to make it look too cut up. I have seen some of you guys' work on here and am amazed at how you can convert a photo to make it cutable

I am looking for a lot more detail, do you have any pictures of past face portraits you have done? I will pay someone to do it for sure. I want to have it done before christmas.

Unreal! There is something called private messages folks. You can discuss this there, but meanwhile if someone takes the time to create something FOR FREE, nobody here should be "one-upping" or showing anything but complete graciousness. You ought to be ashamed.

SignTorch does do awsome work, and a lot for free. I have purchaced his CD's and cut a few things for my walls with his files. Im really glad he takes the time to help people out for free on this forum. I don't think Platt Mfg meant that as a "one-up"..he said sign torch does a good job. He's right, I can't expect someone to spend 6 hours designing something for me for free. Thank you SignTorch and thank you Platt Mfg!!!!!!parrotlady wrote:Unreal! i love the fact that signtorch takes the time to do so much around here and so much of it is free especially if you remember a while back there was a lot of fighting with signtorch he has had alot of work ripped off a few of us have and he has still been gracious enough to do so much for free for this forum i think we all owe him a thank you especially when he does a free photo for you thats the least you can do is say thanks as for me im not trying to one up him at all i was saying you wouldnt get much work out of me for free and we all signtorch included would try to make the photo look alot more real if we were getting paid its not a dis on signtorch and i hope you all know that im glad he is here and he has helped me out a few times i guess i should have pm'ed but ive been laid off for the last 4 months and was hoping to drum up some work and do it respectfully giving credit were credit is due its not like i said that this dxf looks like crap i can do better i said you get what you pay for i wouldnt put much time in something i was going to give away for free most the time
sorry for the misunderstanding

Okay, sorry for being so harsh. I suppose sometimes email can be misinterpreted, and I took it the wrong way. If I were Gary, I would have had hurt feelings, but I can see now, that you didnt mean it that way.

Re: I need help making my girlfriends face portrait cutable..
To be honest, I'm just helping (a little) and advertising (a lot) and keeping an eye on things.
Platt, I feel for ya man, if I may, I 'd suggest that if you show talent and ability to deliver, then that will drum up more business than anything you can say. Just invest the time it takes to draw that girl and then just give it away, just to show that you can. I know there's more people on here with more work than I can keep up with (infinite apologies).
Recognizable human (or pet) portraits are the hardest thing to draw for metal cutting. I just cross my fingers and draw blindly, without worrying about how it will turn out. Sometimes I get lucky... Rarely does it truly impress the customer. Usually I just can't do it anyway and just hate to admit it. Doing it for free for the heck of it is a lot easier than for profit on demand, that's hard.... I'm sure that if you can produce a nice portrait or two, you won't regret giving them away. Or just create some unpublished designs and sell them to me ...
that has to be easier than doing all custom work, and comparably profitable...
I'd just need original designs, doesn't really have to be finished ready to cut vectors...
I know it's no fun to want to do art and not have a way to move it
it takes a special breed to even want to do it
but it can be done...

I was thinking..maybe we should have a competion..the winner gets $150. That way everyone could submit a portrait and show your abilities. Just a thought haha. I can imagine how difficult it is to make the end product really look like the person in the picture...if someone has that ability, and people can see it here, you will get a lot of business. Let me know what you think!

Well I think January 1 is a good deadline. And I am good on my word...I will give $150 to whoever submits a file that I am happiest with and truly looks like her. Do you guys think January 1 is a workable date? Maybe the short time frame will limit the amount of people that see this?

Re: I need help making my girlfriends face portrait cutable..
January 1 is the deadline to submit an entry.
I know I could get the picture converted for way less than $150 but having everyone show me their own creation and having a bunch of choices is worth it to me
Plus this gives you guys a reason to show off some of your work!
Im going to start another thread so people can see there is a competion by reading the title of the post. I will link to this thread and have people post on this one.
Thanks a lot guys for taking part, im excited!!
