Need Torch Height Recommendation.... Complete Set Up....

Post by large_time »

So,

I have a big FastCut CNC that has a manual torch height. I just ordered a machine torched Hypertherm 45 and I am beginning to research an addition such as a torch height control.

I am running version 1 of FastCut software and I have 2 more plugs in the back of the machine that it will control.

Looking at the pictures I have below of my gantry, what do you guys and gals recommend for a package deal.

Thanks!

Is it possible to have a torch holder that does engraving also? That would be awesome...

I'm not sure on any package deals

but as for z axis slides

a used ball screw actuator like this for $100 to $200

is a whole lot better than a new 10 pitch lead screw actuator like this for $200 to $400

just look at the lead screw's max speed rating and consider that the practical operating speed might be half that, not to mention that max practical acceleration will be equally low, all probably slower than your x and y axis, obviously you want z height control to move and accelerate fast, 10 pitch lead screws are not built for speed, that's for sure
