Pm 45 issue

Post by wickedinhere »

I went to cut a few pieces today and i cant get the torch to fire. When it goes to pierce nothing happens and the torch head light starts flashing on the front of the machine. I put new consumables and made sure it wasnt to tight but it still wont fire.
I looked at the book and it said it could be a problem with the torch.

Well i checked everything and couldn't find anything so i downloaded the service manual and pulled the cover to do testing for stuck open or closed torch. Everything tested fine so i noticed that the air pressure light was on yellow but it showed green while i was checking everything so i adjusted the pressure back to green then tried it again and it worked. I am not sure what the problem was but its working great now. I was surprised at how clean it was inside after 1.5 years of use.

Air pressure and consumables are the reason for torches not firing on over 90% of our tech service calls. They are always the first things to thouroughly check.

The Hypertherm Powermax units (the 45, 65, 85 and 105) have a clean side/dirty side design as well as a "fan on demand". This keeps all critical internal components from collection metalic shop dust.

Glad you got it fixed! Jim Colt
