Cad software options

I'm looking to buy some cad software, I build custom bumpers for jeep cherokee xj and I'm looking to get into building crossmember, link tabs and anything I can come up with, I'm working with draft slight right now and there no help or videos on how to use it, I've made my production bumper on it but I can't do some of the things I want to do with it. 3d is not a must but would be cool, can any software take a lot of 2d parts and turn it into a 3d shape in mins, I've looked at autocad but really don't know what I need to buy, been looking into the autocad LT and I've found some student versions on eBay at a good price if I went went autocad what years are the best and what do I need to look for before I order. Any help would be great.
