A sign i'm working on
This is a sign i'm working on for a local karate business. I gave the owner a great deal and i'm not really making a lot of money on this one but he gets about 1000 people a week in his place and they'll all be staring right at this thing every time they come in. I can't pay for that kind of advertising. The hardest part is going to be masking off all those letters when I paint.

I'm pretty pleased with it and the owner loves it. I hung it for him today along with another piece I made for him. He wants two more now, One for outside to mount on the side of the building and another one for inside (same size different design).

Re: A sign i'm working on
Great sign, really came out nice. I am retired and am planning on getting started in metal working as a hobby, I don't even have a shop yet, trying to do as much research as possible first. Just had a question, how did you get the white background on your sign? Did you tape off the top layer of metal??
Thanks
Greg

I taped off all the letters. Next time i'm going to paint the bottom layer white and bolt the two pieces together instead of welding them. You live and learn.

Re: A sign i'm working on
nice job!
thats a question i've been wanting to ask too. (ie painting multiple layers of metal) sometimes i weld, sometimes i use mechanical fasteners, sometimes improvised fasteners and sometimes jb weld. i'm not a great painter and certainly not a good masker! so i can't imagine masking letters off after welding layers together and it looking that good.
