The Hypertherm units have a special pilot arc controller and a selector switch on the front panel specifically designed for cutting expended metal. When cutting over metal, the arc is cutting normally....as soon as a hole is sensed, the pilot arc controller quickly lowers the current to minimize nozzle wear....and rapidly ramps it back up when it gets back over the metal. You will have to put the height control system into manual mode for cutting expanded metal.

I have a Dynatorch with a Hypertherm 1250. Cutting expanded metal is easy: turn off the THC and flip a switch on the front of the Hypertherm. Start the cut over metal portion on the EM.

I have a TD 151 and it cuts expanded metal fine also. I image most of the big names will cut it fine. TD has a setting for it.
