Acid Patina On Galvanized Steel~

Thanks. i've got a customer in ID that's building a "Silo Home" and wants the entire exterior done in a patina finish.
Each curved panel will have to be patinated & clear-coated before assembly.

These are single-stage samples, e.g. one patina. Quick & Easy. Torch, Black or Bronze could be added to the Rust FX
or Copper FX for even more dramatic patinas.

Hey Bill, what do you use to clear coat your art work? The stuff I use doesn't seem to have a good gloss to it?

I use DELTRON DC3000. You can find it at any PPG Dealer that caters to the auto-body shops. It's also available on my site. It's definitely the best I've ever used.

Gary, a while back I asked if you had ever used copper fx on galvanized, you said not yet, so I tried it and it just turned black on me, what am I doing wrong can you tell me......by the way that looks great

I've done galvanized, just didn't have any photos until now. You have to vaporize the zinc, first.
A quick (2-3 minutes) in HCI/H20-1:1 will do the trick. I use straight HCI 35%, but it's a very violent, nasty
way to go. Puts off a lot of green smoke & hydrogen gas, so be careful & wear proper PPE if you do it.
Straight HCI only takes 3-5 seconds!

Rinse with water, apply the Copper FX, force-dry & seal. It's really easy.
